Witho Holland (* 14. July 1926 in Bunzlau ; † 12. June 2017 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer and party functionary of the GDR - Block Party LDPD . He was secretary of the central board of the LDPD and a member of the People's Chamber .

Life

Witho Holland was born the son of a lawyer. In 1944 he graduated from high school for boys at the state dental school in Bunzlau with the Abitur. In the same year he was called up for military service. During this time, Holland joined the NSDAP in 1944 . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Americans in Italy . After hospital stays, he then came from there via Erlangen to Schmalkalden and into the Soviet occupation zone , where his parents had settled as resettlers. In the spring of 1946 he began to study law , which he completed in 1950 with the first state examination. In 1953, Holland completed the second state examination. In 1957 he received his doctorate in law from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena with a thesis on “The Narrow Kald Crafts Guilds and their Law up to the Middle of the 19th Century, mainly based on their Guild Letters” . He then found a job at the consumer cooperative , for which he initially worked as a legal advisor for the district association, and later until 1961 for the district association of Suhl . In 1961 Holland moved to Berlin , where he worked until 1970 as legal counsel for the general association of cooperatives in the GDR.

Party political activity

In 1946 Holland joined the LDP bloc party . Not least because of his prominent position in the general association of cooperatives, he also increasingly took over political offices in the LDPD from 1963. In addition, from the fourth electoral term of the People's Chamber in 1963 onwards, the consumer cooperatives had no members of their own in the parliament of the GDR. In 1963, Holland ran for the first time as a member of the People's Chamber with the LDPD mandate. As a result, he was a member of the People's Chamber until the end of the 9th electoral term in 1990. At the same time, Holland became a member of the LDPD district committee in Berlin until 1967, and from 1967 to 1970 he was the deputy chairman of the LDPD district committee in Berlin. In 1970 Holland switched full-time to the party, he took over the function of secretary of the central board of the LDPD and was at the same time its member. From 1972 until the party was dissolved in 1990, he was also a member of the Political Committee of the LDPD's central executive committee.

Holland died in Berlin at the age of 90.
