The Wiwi ( Russian Виви ) is a 426 km long, right-hand or northwestern tributary of the Lower Tunguska in the Russian region of Krasnoyarsk in the north of central Siberia .

course

The Wiwi flows in the southern part of the Putorana Mountains , the north-western part of the Central Siberian Mountains , the southern end of the Wiwisees . It flows mainly in a south-easterly direction through the unpopulated mountainous area of the Sywermaplateau , the extensive southern foothills of the mountains. In the upper reaches it runs in a wide valley through zones of the forest tundra , whereby it meanders strongly and has a flat river character. In this section of the valley in particular, there are over 500 small lakes on an area of around 268 km², often in the form of oxbow lakes .

In the lower reaches, the Wiwi flows faster and is full of rapids and shallows. Strong floods form there in spring when the snow melts. Finally, between Babkino in the east and Uchami in the west-southwest, it flows at 100  m into the southeastern Yenisei tributary Lower Tunguska , which flows around 707 km below into the Yenisei, which strives towards the Arctic Ocean .

Hydrography

The catchment area of the Wiwi covers 26,800 km², its mean discharge (MQ) is 200 m³ / s. The river is covered in ice between October and the end of May.

Infrastructure

The Wiwi, which flows through an unpopulated area, is not used by inland shipping.
