from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wladimir Iwanowitsch Zytowitsch ( Russian Владимир Иванович Цытович , also: Vladimir Tsytovich and Vladimir Cytovich; born August 6, 1931 in Leningrad , Soviet Union ; † October 5, 2012 in Saint Petersburg , Russia ) was a Soviet-Russian musicologist, musicologist, pianist .

Life

1931 to 1945

Vladimir Ivanovich Zytowitsch's family came from Belarus . Both grandfathers were Orthodox priests. His father was the civil engineer Ivan Alexandrowitsch Zytowitsch. Zytowitsch's mother Lidija Vladimirovna Butomo had attended the higher music school in Homel ( Гомельское музыкальное училище ). His aunt was a pianist. His mother sang soprano, but was also an accomplished piano player. They often held house concerts, at which the young Zytowitsch gained his first musical impressions. He received his first music lessons at home when he was about seven years old. His first music teacher was Michail Timofejewitsch Dulow (* 1877), who also taught at the conservatory. Shortly before the Second World War, Zytowitsch fell ill with tubercular bronchoadenitis. As a result, music lessons were suspended. With Dulow, Zytowitsch had about four years of lessons before the family was evacuated from Leningrad to Kazan during the war .

1945 to 1962

Only after returning in 1945 he received music lessons again in the Palace of Pioneers and Schoolchildren in Leningrad ( Ленинградский дворец пионеров и школьников ). His brother Alexander Zytowitsch learned the violin and Wladimir Zytowitsch accompanied him on the piano. In this way he acquired knowledge of the string instrument and composed a small concerto for violin and piano in 1946/47 , which the brothers performed together. In 1947 he joined the School of Music at the Palace of Pioneers and school children with a ДПШ [DPSch] diploma ab.1947 he became the resident at the conservatory Leningrad seven-year music school (Cамостоятельную профессиональную детскую музыкальную школу-семилетку added). The admissions committee classified him in the seventh grade based on his talent. In the same year he graduated from the general school ( Общеобразовательная школа ) with the tenth grade . In the following year he was assigned to the piano class Grunja Isaaknowa Gankinas and the composition class Sergej Jakowlewitsch Wolfensons (1903-1992). Although well respected by teachers and classmates, he often did not meet his own standards. Despite the encouragement of the teachers, he destroyed many compositions from this period. In 1953 he graduated from school with honors. After that he attended the Leningrad Conservatory . After an entrance examination in composition that did not meet his expectations, he was assigned to the composition class of Boris Alexandrovich Arapov instead of the Orest Alexandrovich Jewlachows (1912–1973) class . During Arapov's second and third year in China, he was represented by Yuri Anatoljewitsch Balkashin (1923–1960). He also attended the organ class of Isai Alexandrowitsch Braudos . During this time he learned how to work with an orchestra and the symphonic suite Das Huttlige Pferdchen and the Five Songs after Blok were written. The Sinfonietta was his final thesis in composition . Performances of these works were already being broadcast on the radio at that time. A special and then rare award was that Zytowitsch was accepted into the Leningrad Department of the Soviet Composers' Union ( Ленинградского отделения Союза композиторов СССРоров СССРоров СССРР) in 1957 in his fourth year of study . In 1958 he completed his composition studies at the Leningrad Conservatory and then began his postgraduate studies . He also attended Boris Alexandrovich Arapov's composition class. At this time he began teaching instrumentation at the Conservatory. The piano concerto, the suite for two pianos and the symphonic sketches for the good soldier Schwejk were composed during this time. He completed his piano studies in the piano class of Isai Alexandrowitsch Braudos in 1960, the aspirantur in 1961.

1962 to 2012

From 1969 to 1972 Zytowski studied Béla Bartók's music intensively . This culminated in the final thesis of his candidacy. With Специфика тембрового мышления Б. Бартока в квартетах и в оркестровых сочинениях [The specifics of timbres in Béla Bartók's way of thinking in quartets and orchestral compositions] he received the degree of candidate in art history in 1973. He then became a lecturer at the conservatory. In 1981 he was appointed professor. Until 1985 he headed the instrumentation department there. Several dissertations were defended under his chairmanship. Among his students were Yuri Chatujewitsch Temirkanow , Wladimir Abramowitsch Altschuler (* 1946), Valeri Abissalowitsch Gergijew , Algirdas Romualdowitsch Paulavichyus (1945-2007) and Alexander Jurjewitsch Radwilowitsch . In 1990 he was honored as an Honored Artist of the RSFSR . In 2002 he was made a Knight of the Order of Friendship . On October 5, 2012, he died in Saint Petersburg after a long illness. The funeral service took place on October 9, 2012 at 1.30 p.m. in the Church of Спаса Нерукотворного Образа (Spasa Nerukotwornowo Obrasa) [the hand-made image of the Savior], the burial took place at 3 p.m. in the St. Petersburg North Cemetery (Северно).
