Vladimir Lwowitsch Maschkow ( Russian Владимир Львович Машков ; born November 27, 1963 in Tula ) is a Russian actor and director ; Honored Artist of Russia (1996), People's Artist of Russia (2010).

Life

Vladimir Mashkov was born on November 27, 1963 in the Russian city of Tula in central Russia . His father, Lev Petrovich Mashkov, was an actor in the Novokuznetsk Puppet Theater, and his mother, Natalia Ivanovna Nikiforova, was a theater director in the same theater. His maternal grandmother was Italian.

In 1984 Mashkov started studying acting in Novokuznetsk and from 1989 in Moscow . Since 1989 he has played in cinema and television films. In 1990 he successfully completed his acting studies.

In 1995 he played the lead role in the Russian film The American Daughter (director: Karen Shachnasarow ), which brought him first notoriety. Since he starred in the US film Dancing at the Blue Iguana in 2000 , he has played repeatedly in Hollywood films, usually in the roles of the "bad Russian".

In 1997 Mashkov played the lead role in the film The thief , who in 1998 with the Oscar Award for best foreign language film.

2001 was a very successful year for Mashkov. He played u. a. the opponent of Owen Wilson , the Serbs Sascha, in the Hollywood film In Crosshairs - Alone Against All and alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh the Russian mafioso Oleg Volkov in The Quickie .
