Wolf-Udo Smidt

Wolf-Udo Smidt (born March 12, 1929 in Rysum ; † August 1, 1994 in Mollberg ) was a Protestant theologian and secretary of the Bremen Evangelical Church .

Wolf-Udo Smidt, a son of the pastor and later state superintendent Udo Smidt , completed his theological examinations in 1953 and 1956 and spent an academic year at New College in Edinburgh in Scotland from 1954 to 1955 .

From 1953 to 1954, Smidt was vicar of the Evangelical Reformed congregation in Bentheim and from 1955 to 1957 he was vicar and assistant preacher in Esklum .

From 1956 to 1957 Smidt was the provisional director of the State Youth Parish Office and from 1957 to 1966 he was parish pastor in Bremerhaven - Geestemünde . From 1966 until his retirement in 1991 he held the pastor's position in Bremen-Blockdiek .

In addition to serving as a parish pastor, Wolf-Udo Smidt was secretary of the church committee of the Bremen Evangelical Church from 1977 to 1989 , which, according to the constitution of this regional church , corresponds to the spiritual director (in other regional churches: bishop or church president ). His successor was Ernst Uhl .

From 1989 to 1994 he was federal chairman of the Evangelical Working Group on Conscientious Objection and Peace (EAK).
