Renke Diedrich Brahms (born April 29, 1956 in Bremen ) is a German Protestant theologian , pastor and was secretary of the Bremen Evangelical Church from 2007 to 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bremen, Brahms studied Protestant theology in Münster , Tübingen and Göttingen . He was ordained on April 28, 1985 in Bremen and was then pastor of the Melanchthon congregation in Bremen for 16 years. Subsequently, he was responsible for the training and further education of educators as a “pastor for religious education”. He is chairman of the Bremen Bible Society and was elected secretary of the Bremen Evangelical Church by the Kirchentag in 2007. Brahms held this office for two sessions; in 2019 he did not stand for re-election. Renke Brahms has been part-time director of the Evangelical Wittenberg Foundation since February 2019 and will take over the office full-time from August 2019.

Since October 1, 2008, Brahms has held the newly created office of Peace Commissioner of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). Renke Brahms is also on the advisory board for evangelical pastoral care in the Bundeswehr .

Brahms is married and has two children.

Positions

In a church word on Afghanistan , which Brahms co-published on January 25, 2010, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) warns against a mere “business as usual” in Afghanistan policy. This would deprive the military operation of the legitimacy of peace ethics.
