Wolfgang Burchert

Wolfgang Burchert (born December 11, 1958 in Hanover ) is a German nuclear medicine specialist and university professor . He is Director of the Institute for Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia in Bad Oeynhausen ( University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum ).

Life

Burchert attended the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hanover. After graduating from high school, he studied human medicine at the Hannover Medical School from 1977 . In 1984 he was approved. In 1990 he was recognized as a doctor of nuclear medicine.

After completing his military service, he worked in 1986 as an assistant doctor in the surgical clinic of the University of Lübeck and until 1998 as a specialist in nuclear medicine in the department for nuclear medicine and special biophysics at the Hannover Medical School. During this time he received his doctorate in 1988.

From 1991 to 1998 Wolfgang Burchert worked as a senior physician in nuclear medicine. After being awarded the Venia Legendi for nuclear medicine, in 1997 he was acting director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Nuclear Medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig .

In 1998 Wolfgang Burchert was appointed to the C3 professorship for nuclear medicine with a focus on positron emission tomography at the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden .

Since 2001 he has been the director of the Institute for Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW, Bad Oeynhausen, University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum . In January 2002 he was appointed professor for nuclear medicine at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

Burchert is a member of the board of directors of the German Society for Nuclear Medicine and is a leading member of several working committees of scientific societies (DGN, DGK). Since 2009 he has been working on a voluntary basis at the Westphalia-Lippe Medical Association . He continues to work as chairman of the Radiology Standards Committee (NAR-DIN).

Wolfgang Burchert has been the head of the ethics committee of the Medical Faculty of the Ruhr University Bochum since 2009 . Since 2011 he has been the radiation protection officer of the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW. He is also a member of the Radiation Protection in Medicine committee of the Radiation Protection Commission, an advisory body to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety . Research focuses on positron emission tomography (PET / CT) and non-invasive imaging of the heart.

Wolfgang Burchert is married and has two children.
