Wolfgang Deuling

Wolfgang Hendrik Deuling (* 1941 ) is a former member of the SPD federal executive committee. He and his wife Barbara were named as Stasi sources in the SPD during the 1970s and 1980s.

Life

Deuling comes from the Döling family in Egerland . His mother was Maria Deuling. Since June 1971 he had been in the “ barracks ”, the SPD headquarters in Bonn, office manager of Hans-Jürgen Wischnewski , who at that time was a member of the SPD federal executive committee. At the same time, he is said to have worked as "IM Bob" with the Ministry for State Security of the GDR, which in 1980 was awarded the silver medal from the German Democratic Republic for "For Merit for People and Fatherland" .

From 1981 Deuling was Wischnewski's personal advisor. His wife, Barbara Deuling, worked as an employee of the SPD parliamentary group and is said to have also obtained or forwarded information for the Stasi under the code name "IM Petra".

The Deuling couple are said to have been responsible for delivering large amounts of sensitive information from the SPD leadership to the GDR espionage service. According to the magazine Focus , it included confidential dossiers about the CDU , employers' associations , Middle East problems and NATO . Compared to the Deulings, the magazine classifies Günter Guillaume , who was convicted as a spy in 1974, as "unimportant". Her attorney at the time, Helmuth Jipp, however, stated that his clients had never "consciously and deliberately worked for the GDR Ministry for State Security". In the period from 1981 to 1983, hundreds of documents sent to GDR services can be traced back to “Bob” and “Petra”, which were repeatedly awarded the rarely awarded grade 1 by the clients. In 1982 "IM Bob" received the gold medal "For services to the people and the fatherland" .

Wolfgang Deuling initiated a controversial polling campaign as an SPD speaker in the 1972 federal election campaign and was responsible for finding donors from the CDU who were assigned anonymous anti-SPD advertisements. In 1990 he was the manager of the Auberge Les Deux restaurant in Bonn.

Between September 28 and October 4, 1988, the Deulings met with the former HVA officers Gerhard Behnke and Horst Jänicke at the Hilton in Athens . There is divergent information about the purpose of this meeting. While Wolfgang Deuling's lawyer claims that the GDR Ministry wanted to reactivate earlier IM sources, Barbara Deuling describes the meeting as an unsuccessful recruitment attempt. The former officers, however, stated that the Deulings wanted to get out at that time.

Wolfgang Deuling and his wife were in 2007 in the book Germans in the service of the East German spy from the "Scientific series of the authority of the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former German Democratic Republic ( Stasi )" as "West-IM" or "IM Bob ”and referred to as“ IM Petra ”. This designation with real names was prohibited by the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court , but at the same time confirmed that information from Deuling's environment reached the Stasi. The Deuling couple withdrew their lawsuit against the linking of their names against Helmut Müller-Enbergs after the court had declared that they had no jurisdiction and another legal process should have been taken.

"Leading officers" of the HVA testified against the Deulings. For example Kurt Gailat on October 11, 1995: “I can only say that the IMs 'Petra' and 'Bob' - behind them the Deuling couple - were conducted like other IM processes.” Barbara Deuling also sued process reporting on the Internet.

The attorney general in 1998 set the investigation for alleged intelligence agents work against the couple after payment of 15,000 DM for threatened statute of limitations.

Wolfgang Deuling is co-author of numerous programmatic documents of the party Die Linke in NRW . In 2008, together with other well-wishers, he paid tribute to Karl Marx's birthday in advertisements in the newspapers Neues Deutschland , Junge Welt and Frankfurter Rundschau .

On Deuling's initiative, a strip of shore in Bonn was named after the early socialist and communist pioneer Moses Hess .

Deuling is also publicly committed to building a memorial for the 80th anniversary of the book burning in Bonn in 1933.
