Wolfgang Grabo

Wolfgang Grabo (* 1935 in Kemberg ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

In 1955 he made his first tour of the GDR for the selection of SV Chemie and was 15th on the tour. Shortly before, he had finished second behind Rolf Töpfer in the selection race for the Grand Diamond Prize . In 1956 he was appointed to the national team and was among the candidates for the 1956 Summer Olympics . In 1957 he won the race around Cologne . He crossed the finish line in second place; Walter Berens , who was ahead of him, was disqualified because he had taken a shortcut. Grabo was the only driver from the GDR who could win the race. Shortly afterwards, he was fourth best German in the International Saarland Tour . In 1957 he won the 1st stage of the GDR Tour and took 6th place in the overall ranking. A year later he finished the tour in 8th place, in 1959 he was 6th.

Grabo won the GDR team time trial in 1958 with his club SC DHfK Leipzig (including Gustav-Adolf Schur and Bernhard Eckstein ). In 1961 he played his last season and won another stage of the GDR tour.
