Wolfgang Griesert (born October 6, 1957 in Krefeld ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He is Lord Mayor of the city ​​of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony . Griesert is Deputy President of the German Association of Cities .

Life

Wolfgang Griesert studied architecture at the University of Dortmund . Since 1985 he has held the title of Assessor of Construction . He then worked in local government, for example in the cities of Kiel and Krefeld. From 1997 to 2001 he was head of the building, environment and transport department in the city administration of the East Westphalian city ​​of Minden . From 2005 to 2013 he was the head of construction and the environment in Osnabrück, and in 2012 and 2013 also as the representative of the mayor Boris Pistorius ( SPD ).

In the mayoral election on September 10, 2006, he won the first ballot with 38.6 to 36.2 percent against Boris Pistorius, but lost the runoff election on September 24, 2006 with 44.4 to 55.6 percent. Wolfgang Griesert was able to win the subsequent elections on September 22, 2013 (with 46.35 percent), in the runoff election on October 6, 2013 he prevailed with 54.85 percent of the valid votes and a turnout of 41.77 percent.

In his role as Lord Mayor, Wolfgang Griesert is a member of various supervisory boards, for example of the Münster / Osnabrück airport , the Osnabrück municipal theaters and the Osnabrück municipal utilities .
