Wolfgang Heinrich (born January 16, 1928 in Berlin ) is a German painter , graphic artist and illustrator .
Life
Youth and education
Wolfgang Heinrich was born in Berlin in 1928 as the son of the bookseller Ernst Heinrich. Since his childhood he drew and watercolored in the landscape around the Müggelberge in Berlin. In 1943 he came to the Giant Mountains and the Zittau Mountains through the Kinderlandverschickung (KLV) , where he drew and painted watercolors, as he did in Berlin. From 1944 he served as an air force helper and was able to take part in an art exhibition of the 1st Flak Division in Berlin. As an American prisoner of war , he recorded life in the camp in pencil drawings. From 1946 onwards, he self-taught he expanded his knowledge of color by copying art prints with self-made oil paints. From 1948 to 1952 the autodidact received his first artistic training in freehand and nude drawing as well as in painting at the University of Education in Berlin from professors Jacob and Stöcker.
In 1954 he married Ruth Zückert. He has lived and worked in Herford since 1958 .
Artistic work
Wolfgang Heinrich's artistic work includes watercolors , drawings, etchings , linocuts and numerous book illustrations.
Since 1952 he worked as an art teacher in East Berlin . In 1953 he became a tutor at the Institute for Art Education at Humboldt University and in 1955 a seminar leader for art education. In the years up to 1958 he was able to participate in exhibitions of the Kulturbund in East Berlin. In 1958 he and his wife moved from the GDR to Herford .
In addition to his pedagogical work and on his travels, he is engaged in landscape painting . In 1968 he went on a study trip to Iraq and Iran . Since 1969 he has also devoted himself to graphic relief printing techniques, he printed the wood and linoleum cuts in small editions on his own press.
In 1971 he was accepted into the English artists' association Free painters and sculptors (FPS). In 1972 he became the head of training for school interns in art education for teaching at secondary schools in Herford, and from 1976 he taught at the Herford adult education center. From 1980 to 1992 he was a member of the Lippischer Künstlerbund (LKB).
From 1985 he worked as a busy illustrator of books, which mainly had his adopted home and in particular the city of Herford on the subject.
Prizes and awards
- 1970 Scholarship from the Aldegrever Society and the Herford district to work in the Kätelhön graphic workshops in Wamel .
- 1995 Honorary Member of the British Empire for supporting and promoting the cultural life of the British garrison in Herford.
- 2002: Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
