Wolfgang Kießling

Wolfgang Kießling (born November 26, 1929 in Beierfeld ; † March 1, 1999 ) was a German historian and university professor .

Life

Wolfgang Kießling became a new teacher in 1948 and remained in this profession until 1960. In 1954 he passed the examination to become a certified specialist in history at the German Central Pedagogical Institute in Berlin . In 1960 Kießling became a research associate at the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the Central Committee of the SED (IML). Until 1964 he worked for the local history sector of the local labor movement , in 1964 he became editor and in 1974 deputy editor-in-chief of the journal Contributions to the History of the Labor Movement . The doctorate took place in 1967 with Walter Wimmer and Heinz Geggel with a thesis on the subject of the development and growth of the movement "Free Germany" in Mexico and the Latin American Committee of Free Germans under the leadership of the party organization of the KPD in Mexico (1941-1943) , the doctorate B with Werner Mittenzwei , Klaus Jarmatz and Helma Richter in July 1979 on the subject of exile in Latin America. Art and literature in anti-fascist exile 1933–1944 . Since September 1982, Kießling taught as a full professor for the history of the German labor movement at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the IML was renamed the Institute for the History of the Labor Movement and Kießling became a research assistant. From 1981 to 1989 he was President of the GDR-Mexico Friendship Society.

The focus of his academic studies is on the exile of German anti-fascists in Latin America . After the restrictions of the GDR were removed, he primarily dealt with previously concealed episodes from the world of the intelligence services .
