Wolfram Maas

Wolfram Maas (born January 16, 1950 in Engers , Neuwied ) is a German diplomat . He was ambassador to Serbia from 2007 to 2012 and ambassador to Belarus until 2015 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Maas studied mathematics and business administration from 1968 to 1975 and then completed a postgraduate degree in economics .

In 1979 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career examination, was a consultant at the Federal Foreign Office's training and further education facility from 1981 to 1982 , before he was cultural officer at the embassy in the USA until 1985 . After his return, he was deputy head of the information technology working group at the Foreign Office in Bonn and then between 1987 and 1988 personal assistant to the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag , Hans Stercken ( CDU ).

Subsequently, he was permanent representative of the ambassador in Jamaica until 1992 and then deputy head of department in the Foreign Office until 1995 , before he was foreign policy advisor to the chairman of the CSU regional group in the German Bundestag, Michael Glos , from 1995 to 1999 . After completing this activity, Maas was head of the economic department of the embassy in India between 1999 and 2000 and head of the Hanns Seidel Foundation's office in Washington, DC from 2001 to 2004 and then envoy to the Permanent Mission to the OSCE in Vienna .

Since 2007 Wolfram Maas has been the successor to Andreas Zobel as ambassador to Serbia . Heinz Wilhelm followed him in this post in September 2012 . From 2012 to 2015 he was ambassador to Belarus. In 2015 he retired and in September 2015 he was replaced as ambassador to Belarus by Peter Dettmar , who was previously consul general in Milan .
