Wolfram Winter (born November 4, 1963 in Werneck ) is a German media manager , political scientist and journalist . Among other things, he was spokesman for Sky Deutschland from 2010 to 2017.

Life

Wolfram Winter grew up in Schweinfurt and after a stay in the USA began writing his first articles in 1981 as a freelance journalist for the Texas Rockwall Success. During his studies at LMU Munich , he went to what was then South West Africa / Namibia for half a year in 1987 to work as an editor for the Windhoek Advertiser. This stay was followed by a second one, this time as editor and moderator for the German-speaking radio station of the South West African radio station there. As a correspondent for German media, he later reported on Namibia's independence process, his master's thesis was also the subject of this topic. After his final return to Munich in 1991 Wolfram Winter was a freelance presenter for the private broadcaster Charivariin Munich, and Radio Kö in Augsburg, as well as on private local TV tv white-blue . At the newly founded MDR he was the editor responsible for the news for MDR television.

In 1992 Wolfram Winter became head of the listener promotion at Antenne Bayern , in the same year he switched to the newly founded advertising time marketer of ProSieben , the MGM MediaGruppe Munich. His next position was in 1994 at DSF , as speaker and head of communication. In 1996 he became head of programming for the Kirch Group's new pay-TV platform , DF 1 . Two years later, Universal started its first pay-TV broadcaster and with it its television activities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Wolfram Winter became the founding managing director and stayed there for the next 8 years. During this time, a total of 6 TV channels were created: 13TH Street , Studio Universal , SciFi as pay TV offerings, Das Vierte as free TV channels and, in a joint venture with the American parent company A&E, the History Channel and the Biography Channel . With the Shocking Shorts Award , a prize was created for directors that, as a film funding program for the TV broadcaster 13th Street, allows its winners a look at Universal Pictures. Florian Henkel von Donnersmark was its first winner.

In 2007, Wolfram Winter founded Premiere Star GmbH as managing director and partner together with Premiere AG, and other partners soon joined HypoVereinsbank, Time Warner and Avenue Capital. For the first time in Germany, pay-TV offers were marketed independently of Premiere on a satellite platform. With the entry of Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorporation into Premiere AG, negotiations began for a takeover by the company, which was soon to be renamed Sky Deutschland. With the completion of these transactions, Premiere Star GmbH was fully integrated into the M-Dax company Sky Deutschland AG.

With the American Brian Sullivan, Sky began a phase in 2010 in which the long-standing loss maker ultimately became a profitable company. Wolfram Winter was initially responsible for distribution with the cable network operators as Senior Vice President and then became the company's spokesman and head of communications. As Executive Vice President Communication & Public Affairs, he managed the company's internal and external communications. This also included the MIRA Awards , which were given for the last time in 2015 and which were the first to recognize pay-TV services. Wolfram Winter was honored with the Gold Stevie Award in 2015 as "Executive of the year in the areas of communication, investor relations or PR". In 2016, Winter also became Managing Director of Sky Media GmbH and thus responsible for marketing advertising time, and until 2017 he was Deputy Chairman of the Sky Foundation.

He has been teaching international media management at Macromedia University since 2011 , where he has been an honorary professor since 2016.

In 2017 Wolfram Winter left Sky Deutschland, which had now been converted into a GmbH. After a brief position as a member of the board at the Munich agency heller & partner in 2018, he has since worked with Three Winters GmbH as an investment and consulting company. Since then he has mainly been active as a consultant, investor and advisory board member in start-ups . He writes a column for GQ magazine and comments at irregular intervals for Clap.

With his entry as a partner at Pictures in a Frame GmbH, he has been involved in the development and production of content for cinema, TV and streaming portals since 2018 - the company is founded and managed by two former students from Winter at Macromedia, Jan Gallasch and Tobias Herrmann. With the film 25 km / h (director: Markus Goller ), in which Pictures in a Frame was involved as co-producer and the two managing directors Tobias Herrmann and Jan Gallasch as executive producers, the company achieved one of the most successful German cinema productions with over a million cinema viewers of the year 2018.
