MIRA Award trophy

The MIRA Award is the first German award for achievements and programming for pay TV in Germany. Regardless of the distribution channels and the platform used to broadcast the pay-TV programs, this was first awarded in September 2008 in Munich . The initiator of the media award was Premiere Star GmbH in Munich, which in 2009 became Sky Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG . Channel concepts and formats are assessed with the MIRA Award, and personalities are honored who have achieved exceptional performance and ensured high entertainment value in the television year. The last Mira Awards ceremony took place in 2015.

1st MIRA Award (2008)

In addition to a national honorary committee consisting of Veronica Ferres , Heiner Lauterbach , Innegrit Volkhardt , Michael Börnicke and Hans Seger , the jury also included the following members: The film and television actress Tina Bordihn , Christian Hellmann (editor-in-chief of TV Digital magazine ), producer Nico Hofmann , Günther Picker (member of the management team at Premiere Star) and Jean-Remy von Matt , co-founder of the Jung von Matt media agency.

1st MIRA Award winners:

  • Event program of the year: "Mozart 22" (Classica)

  • Channel face of the year: Niels Ruf (Sat.1 Comedy)

2nd MIRA Award (2009)

The jury in 2009 included the actor Hannes Jaenicke, producer Quirin Berg, actor and presenter Florian Simbeck, professor for media management at macromedia Arthur Hofer and the deputy editor-in-chief of TV Digital Thomas Weiß.

  • Newcomer of the year: TNT series
  • Best local in-house production of the year: Spiegel Geschichte - "einestages.tv"
  • Event program of the year: National Geographic - "Earth Day"
  • Face of the Year: Nat Geo Wild - Brady Barr
  • Best brand communication: 13th Street
  • HD Channel of the Year (Special Jury Prize): Sky Sport HD
  • Best Brand Communication: 13th Street - "Shocking Shorts Award"

3rd MIRA Award

On January 26, 2012, the prize was awarded for the third time. 63 pay-TV broadcasters sent a total of 112 entries. For the first time, viewers were able to decide on the quality and entertainment value of pay TV channels. The jury included actress Katja Flint , producer Max Wiedemann , managing director of Studio Hamburg Robin Houcken, deputy editor-in-chief of TV Digital and, for the first time, a Sky viewer for the 112 entries.

  • Best moderator: Florian Simbeck (AXN)
  • Best local in-house production: "Sky90" (Sky Sport HD)
  • Best sports commentator: Jirka Schink (Sportdigital)
  • Best series: " Breaking Bad " (AXN)
  • Best HD channel: Sky 3D
  • Best event programming (special prize from the jury): the cross-channel theme week "Ten Years 9/11" (Spiegel Geschichte, The Biography Channel, History, Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel)
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Marcel Reif

4th MIRA Award

On January 24, 2013, the winners of the 4th MIRA Awards for 2012 were announced. The jury consisted of the producer Minu Barati , the actress Christine Neubauer , the actor Friedrich Mücke , the director and producer Marco Kreuzpaintner , the media manager Robin Houcken , the television journalist Thomas Weiß and a subscriber to the pay-TV channel Sky.

  • Best presenter: Sebastian Hellmann , Sky Sport
  • Best series: Game of Thrones , Sky Atlantic HD and TNT series
  • Best sports commentator: Ulrich Potofski , Sky Sport
  • Best local in-house production (non-scripted): Projekt Profi, Sky Sport (Yannick Erkenbrecher and Vinko Bicanic)
  • Best local in-house production (scripted): The Eleventh Day, The Biography Channel
  • Special Jury Prize: Add a Friend, TNT series
  • Favorite Station of the Year: 13th Street
  • Pay TV Personality of the Year: The female faces of Pay TV

5th MIRA Award

The 5th MIRA Award was presented on January 23, 2014 in Berlin. The jury consisted of the actresses Dennenesch Zoudé and Thekla Reuten, the actors Michael Brandner and Herbert Knaup as well as the producer and director Oliver Berben, the deputy TV digital editor-in-chief Thomas Weiß and the Sky subscriber Tina Jäger.

Winner of the 5th MIRA Award:

  • Best presenter: Aline von Drateln , Sky Cinema HD
  • Best presenter: Mats Wilander , Eurosport HD
  • Best local in-house production: Cartoon Network interns - Jimi and Mitja do the job check, Cartoon Network
  • Best documentary: News from Fukushima , Spiegel TV Wissen
  • Best series: House of Cards , Sky Atlantic HD
  • Favorite TV station of the year (audience award): TNT series
  • Honorary award: Franz Beckenbauer

6th MIRA Award

The 6th MIRA Award was presented on January 29, 2015 in Berlin. The jury consisted of the actors Axel Milberg, Gesine Cukrowski, Richy Müller and Max von der Groeben as well as Diana Iljine, and the editor-in-chief of the Funke Mediengruppe's program guides, Christian Hellmann.

  • Best presenter: Christina Rann (Sky Sport)
  • Best presenter: Dave Salmoni (Discovery Channel) and Stefan Hempel (Sky Sport)
  • Best local in-house production: Qatar Theme Week (Sky Sport News HD)
  • Best Documentary: Searching for Sugar Man (Geo Television)
  • Best series: Gomorrah - The series
  • Favorite channel of the year (audience award): Fox
  • Honorary award: Monica Lierhaus
