Volga-Kama cascade

The Volga-Kama Cascade is the name given to the hydropower plants or reservoirs of the Volga and its largest tributary, the Kama .

After the construction of the first dam at Ivankowo between 1933 and 1937, the cascade has been expanded to 12 large systems (and several smaller ones) with a total output of at least 12  GW .

Reservoirs on the Volga

Looking downstream, these are the largest reservoirs on the Volga :

• Ivankowoer Reservoir (also Moscow Sea / Volga Reservoir ; 327 km² , 1.12 billion m³ )
• Uglich reservoir (249 km², 1.2 billion m³)
• Rybinsk Reservoir (4,580 km², 25.4 billion m³)
• Nizhny Novgorod Reservoir (formerly: Gorky Reservoir ; 1,590 km², 8.7 billion m³)
• Cheboksarsk Reservoir (also Cheboksary Reservoir ; 2,274 km², 13.8 billion m³)
• Kuibyshev reservoir (6,450 km², 58 billion m³)
• Saratower reservoir (1,831 km², 12.9 billion m³)
• Volgograd reservoir (3,117 km², 31.5 billion m³)

• Kamastausee (Kamskoje; Obere Kama; 1,915 km²)
• Votkinsk Reservoir (1,120 km²)
