history

Her pop career began in 2004 with a self-compiled international tribute album for the Manchester indie icon The Fall , in which her bandmate Mathias Hill ( rock formation Diskokugel ) was also involved. The compilation was published by the Hamburg record leader Alfred Hilsberg on his label What's So Funny About . The first three Woog Riots albums were subsequently released on What's So Funny About. Rapidly changing band constellations in 2008 meant that Silvana Battisti and Marc Herbert only worked as a duo.

In their English Dreiminuten- garages - Broadway -Hits the Woog Riots phenomena deal of culture, pop and politics. Foreign tours in the USA, Great Britain, Finland, Italy, Poland and the Netherlands led to enthusiastic reactions and to a constant growth of the own underground network. “From Lo-Fi to Disco!” Not only describes the components of the musical world of the Woog Riots, but is also the name of their own label, founded in 2013. Her album From Lo-Fi to Disco was released here in the same year ! . Silvana Battisti and Marc Herbert are working on the new field of activity with such great enthusiasm that albums by "Umwerschweifende Producers" (aka Knarf Rellöm ) and "The Spaghetti Wings" have now also been released here.

In February 2013 the Woog Riots created a song as an invitation to the exhibition "Powerpoint" by Michael Riedel in the rooms of the top New York gallery owner David Zwirner . The New York press described the song as "an up-beat, euro-pop dance tune that sounds like a kid's band version of Kraftwerk". In 2014 the Woog Riots recorded the song The Story of Pop , which was released as a download single together with Karl Bruckmaier 's book of the same name.

Her fifth album was released in March 2016, named after Alan Rusbridger , the former editor-in-chief and publisher of the British daily newspaper The Guardian , and featuring several songs about the events of the whistleblower Edward Snowden .

The title of their sixth album Cut-up and Paste , which was released in March 2019, describes the way the band works. "We take existing snippets of music history and interpret them completely differently, similar to hip-hop, only that we don't sample anything, we do everything new," explain Silvana and Marc. This is how electro-pop collages are created, the catchyness of which lies in imperfect beauty. Garage glam between bubblegum and power plant. Recorded in the living room at home, post-processed and mixed by Lolo Blümler and techno musician and producer Jörn Elling Wuttke (Alter Ego, Sensorama, Acid Jesus). Text: Biggy Pop

Press quotes

"The Woog Riots prove once again that everything can work together: to combine pop and politics with art and humor in such a way that you have to whistle along the whole time and enjoy how trendy criticism can be."

- Ralf Summer, BR2, Zündfunk, Album of the Week, July 22, 2013

"Aesthetically, the anti-folk references that were said to" Strangelove TV ", the first album by the German-Italian duo, are no longer effective, instead there is tweezy rave and disco with a Nico accent."

- Rolling Stone, 6/2008
