Voronky ( Ukrainian Вороньки ; Russian Вороньки Voronki ) is a village in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Chernihiv with about 900 inhabitants (2006).

Woronky is the only village in the district of the same name in the east of Bobrowyzja district .

The village is located on the T-25-27 territorial road and on the bank of the Supij , a 130 km long tributary of the Dnieper , about 20 km southeast of the Bobrovytsia district center and about 115 km south of the Chernihiv oblast center .

The village originated at the beginning of the 16th century, another source mentions the year 1642.

The tombs of the Decembrist Sergei Grigoryevich Volkonsky and that of his wife Marija Nikolajewna Volkonskaja , who lived here since their return from Siberia in 1859, are located in the village . There is also the grave of the Decembrist Alexander Viktorovich Podschio , who also settled here shortly before his death in 1873. A church , later destroyed by the Bolsheviks , was built over the grave of the daughter of the Volkonsky couple, Jelena Volkonskaya, and that of her husband, the owner of the village, MO Kotschubejem ( М. О. Кочубеєм ) .

Demographic development

In 1971 the village still had 2237 inhabitants, the population fell to 1534 by 1988 and to 1110 by 2001. In 2006, 910 people lived in Woronky.
