Wretched is an American extreme metal band from Charlotte , North Carolina that was formed in 2005 under the name And Since Forgotten .

history

The band was founded in September 2005 by drummer Marshall Wieczorek and guitarist Steven Funderburk under the name And Since Forgotten. A short time later, guitarist Joel Moore and singer Billy Powers along with bassist David Briggs joined the line-up as additional members. This was followed by a tour of the east coast of the United States before the group, which had since been renamed Wretched, signed a contract with Victory Records in 2008 . The debut album The Exodus of Autonomy was released on this label in 2009. In 2010, the line-up changed by adding guitarist John Vail and bassist Rico Marziali as new members. Later in the same year, the next album followed with Beyond the Gate . Appearances with Killwhitneydead , Diskreet and Havok followed . In 2011 the line-up changed again: the band now consisted of singer Adam Cody, bassist Andrew Grevey, drummer Wieczorek and guitarists Vail and Funderburk. The band then took part in The Metal Alliance Tour and played with The Faceless , Job for a Cowboy , DevilDriver , 3 Inches of Blood and Dying Fetus . In 2012 the album Son of Perdition was released . After that there were performances together with Death Angel , Six Feet Under , Soilwork , Jeff Loomis , The Browning and Blackguard .

style

According to Thomas Strater from Metal Hammer, the band wants to mix “the best of Death and Thrash Metal with a good portion of melody and prog on Beyond the Gate . To this end, sizes such as Black Dahlia Murder or Decrepit Birth are cited, but they cannot have any similar quality ”. In spite of the “joy of playing and dexterity”, the result is only a boring “chunk of fiddling”. Billy Power's singing would only consist of "throaty growling ". Yiannis Dafopoulos from metal-temple.com described the music as a mixture of Melodic Death Metal and Deathcore , with the playing of the instruments being technically demanding. Dafopoulos compared the band with The Black Dahlia Murder. Thomas Strater described the band on Son of Perdition as a cross between The Black Dahlia Murder and Between the Buried and Me . Fast, aggressive and slow, progressive passages would alternate in the songs.
