Wullowitz is located north of Leopoldschlag, right on the border to the Czech Republic .
history
The earliest written documents are 1356 "Wolabitz" and 1499 "Wuelewitz". It is based on a Czech * Volovice as its starting form , which goes back to the Slavic personal name Vol and roughly means settlement of the Vol (as in Volovice in South Bohemia or Volovské vrchy in Slovakia ).
meaning
Due to its location close to the border on Mühlviertler Straße , the town has a border crossing to the Czech Republic. Historical events at the border crossing were shown in 2014 on the occasion of the exhibition "25 Years of the Fall of the Iron Curtain - Wullowitz Border Crossing" in the Leopoldschlag municipal office.
