Xaver Stöckli

Xaver Stöckli (born June 1, 1888 in Boswil ; † April 8, 1975 there ; entitled to live in Boswil) was a Swiss politician ( Catholic Conservative ). He represented the canton of Aargau in both the National Council and the Council of States .

biography

The son of a farmer graduated from the district school in Muri and the agricultural school in Brugg . He then worked as a farmer , innkeeper and miller . From 1925 to 1953 he was a district judge in Muri. In 1910 he founded the Freiämter Mosterei Muri, of which he was a member of the board of directors until 1974 (from 1954 as president). In 1924 he founded the Catholic Farmers' Union. He initiated and presided over the Aargauische Bauernhilfskasse, an accident and liability insurance for farmers. He was also a member of the bank council of the Aargauische Kantonalbank and was its vice-president.

Stöckli's political career began in 1919 when he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau. He was a member of the Catholic-Conservative parliamentary group until 1961, and in 1929/30 he was President of the Grand Council. In 1951 he was elected to the National Council, in 1955 he moved to the Council of States. At the federal level, it appeared primarily in the agricultural and alcohol legislation. In 1963 he retired from politics.
