Xavier Geeraerts

Xavier Geeraerts MAfr (born April 4, 1894 in Melsbroeck ( Steenokkerzeel parish ), Belgium , † February 23, 1971 ) was a Belgian religious and Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicar of Bukavu .

Life

Xavier Geeraerts joined the religious order of the White Fathers in and received on 15 July 1922, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On January 10, 1952, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Lagania and Vicar Apostolic of Costermansville (later Bukavu). The Archbishop of Mechelen , Cardinal Jozef-Ernest Van Roey , donated him episcopal ordination on March 25 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the bishop emeritus of Lahore , Hector Catry OFMCap , and the auxiliary bishop in Mechelen, Emiel-Jozef De Smedt .

Xavier Geeraerts resigned as Vicar Apostolic of Bukavu on March 8, 1957. Geeraerts participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
