The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bukavu ( Latin Archidioecesis Bukavuensis , French archidiocèse de Bukavu ) is in the Democratic Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Bukavu .
history
The Archdiocese of Bukavu was founded on December 26, 1929 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Vestigiis Decessores from cessions of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Congo superiore as Apostolic Vicariate Kivu . On January 10, 1952, the Apostolic Vicariate Kivu gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Apostolic Vicariate Kasongo . The Apostolic Vicariate Kivu was renamed on January 10, 1952 in the Apostolic Vicariate Costermansville . On January 6, 1954, the Vicariate Apostolic Costermansville was renamed the Vicariate Apostolic Bukavu . The Apostolic Vicariate Bukavu gave on June 30, 1959 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Goma .
On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Bukavu by Pope John XXIII. raised to an archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum . The Archdiocese of Bukavu gave up on April 16, 1962 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Uvira .
