The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kananga ( Latin Archidioecesis Kanangana , French archidiocèse de Kananga ) is in the Democratic Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Kananga .

history

The Archdiocese of Kananga was established on March 18, 1904 by Pope Pius X as the Apostolic Prefecture of Kasaï Superiore . On June 13, 1917, the Apostolic Prefecture Kasaï Superiore by Pope Benedict XV. raised to the apostolic vicariate . The Apostolic Vicariate Kasaï Superiore gave on May 25, 1936 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Tshumbe . Another assignment of territory took place on April 13, 1937 to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Ipamu . The Apostolic Vicariate Kasaï Superiore was renamed on March 10, 1949 in Apostolic Vicariate Luluabourg . On March 24, 1953, the Vicariate Apostolic Luluabourg gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Vicariate Apostolic Kabinda and the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture Mweka . Another assignment of territory took place on April 25, 1959 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Luebo .

On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Luluabourg was by Pope John XXIII. raised to an archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum . The Archdiocese of Luluabourg gave up parts of its territory in 1963 to establish the Apostolic Administratur Mbuji-Mayi . Further assignments of territory took place on May 3, 1966 to the diocese of Mbujimayi and on September 26, 1967 to establish the diocese of Luiza . On June 14, 1972, the Archdiocese of Luluabourg was renamed Archdiocese of Kananga .
