Xuanhanosaurus (means "lizard of Xuanhano") is a genus of theropod dinosaur that lived in the Middle Jurassic . It was first described by the Chinese paleontologist Dong Zhiming in 1984. The only known species is Xuanhanosaurus qilixiaensis .

Xuanhanosaurus was about six meters long and weighed about 250 kilograms . What is striking about this carnivore is that it had particularly long and strong arms . This fact led Dong to suspect that he might have moved four-legged . However, most scientists today believe that he walked on two legs more like all other theropods .

Its fossils were found in the Dashanpu dinosaur site within the Xiashaximiao Formation in the Chinese province of Sichuan in rocks that were around 168 to 163 million years old.

With regard to the systematics , Dong Xuanhanosaurus assigned to the family Megalosauridae . More recent views from 2004 assume that it belongs directly to the Tetanurae , such as Hotz , Molnar and Currie .
