Yaşar Bilgin (born April 12, 1950 in Mersin , Turkey ) is a German doctor and politician . The professor in cardiology has been a co-opted CDU member and member of the state board of the CDU Hessen since 2002 . Bilgin is co-founder and chairman of the Turkish-German Health Foundation

Career

Bilgin studied both in Germany and in Turkey. From 1986 to 1989 he worked abroad for scientific work in the field of heart transplantation in Louisville , Kentucky , after which he was recognized as a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology in Giessen , Germany.

Since 1996 Bilgin has been a senior physician at the Center for Internal Medicine, Medical Clinic III and Medical Polyclinic of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and head of the “Health and Migration” working group.

After his habilitation in cardiology at the University of Istanbul in 1991, Bilgin was appointed full professor by the University of Çanakkale in 1997.

In 2009 he ran for the CDU in the European elections, but failed to make it into parliament.

Originally from Turkey, Bilgin has been a German citizen since 1991 .

Bilgin is chairman of the Turkish-German Health Foundation, chairman of the Council of Turkish Citizens in Germany, member of the forum against racism at the Federal Ministry of the Interior , member of the Scientific Council of the American Heart Association , member of the Intercultural Council in Germany , member of the board of the German-Turkish Gesellschaft eV, member of the integration advisory board of the Hessian state government, chairman of the European Turkish Union and founding member of the working group "Migration and Public Health" of the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration.

Turkish-German Health Foundation

The Turkish-German Health Foundation eV was founded in 1988 by Yaşar Bilgin, people from public life, politics and health. The main goal of the association is to research the health problems of Turkish citizens living in Germany. It is the first foundation for people of Turkish origin in Germany . The foundation trains and promotes people with a migration background in the medical field. In addition, as part of its projects it offers support courses and support with monitoring , as well as language courses and the training of mentors. In addition to locations in Giessen , Stuttgart and Berlin , the foundation also has locations in Istanbul and Izmir . You work closely with national and international organizations as well as with various ministries.

The Hessian Integration Prize was awarded to the foundation and its projects in 2005.

Gray Wolves Controversy

At the end of May 2009 it became known that Bilgin had placed an obituary notice for the right-wing extremist Turkish politician Muhsin Yazicioglu , in which he paid tribute to him as an important person. Bilgin said he did this out of respect for the deceased and that it did not reflect his political position. In addition, Yazicioglu was his patient. In this context it was also alleged that the CDU politician had described the former head of the Gray Wolves in Germany , Musa Serdar Celebi, as an "dear friend" in an Hürriyet announcement.
