Yamamoto Kansuke

Yamamoto Kansuke ( Japanese 山 本 勘 助 (菅 介) ; * 1493 in the province of Mikawa as Yamamoto Haruyuki ( 山 本 晴 幸 ); † September 10, 1561 (?)) Was a Japanese general.
He was the chief strategist of the 24 generals of the daimyo Takeda Shingen .
He was a brilliant strategist and is best known for his woodpecker plan that led to victory in the fourth battle of Kawanakajima against Uesugi Kenshin . He himself no longer lived to see his victory; Assuming that his plan had failed, he attacked the enemy ranks head-on, was badly wounded and finally committed the honorable ritual suicide ( seppuku ) in battle.
Legend has it that he was blind and lame in one eye, yet a proud warrior. In various works of art he wears a naginata as a support for his weak leg.
Yamamoto's secret strategic knowledge was passed on from generation to generation until 1804 in the form of richly illustrated script - Scrolls as Okugisho. The Art of High Strategy was published. This work, a treatise on strategy and tactics, is attributed to Yamamoto and is included in the chronicles of the Takeda , the Koyo Gunkan . In it he puts the emphasis on the strategic behavior of the individual warriors.
Yamamoto Kansuke was made by Yasushi Inoue in 1959 as the hero and narrator of the novel The Samurai Banner of Furin Kazan , from which Inagaki Hiroshi made a film in 1969 called Fūrin kazan (English title: Samurai Banners ), with Toshirō Mifune in the role of Yamamoto Kansuke.
