Yambalaya is a German music group with a style of Modern Ska . The band was formed in 2005. Its members come from the greater Nuremberg , Erlangen , Forchheim area .
The band name Yambalaya ( Jambalaya is the name of a Creole stew dish ) is based on crossing musical boundaries and mixing styles of different genres. Yambalaya prefers rock , reggae , dancehall , dub , latin and jazz , based on a basic rhythmic ska scheme.
Members
Yambalaya was founded in 2005 after the breakup of the surf ska punk rock band Hiroshima Sunset, whose members were Sönke Sarfert and Viktor Kollmannsberger. In addition to singer Tobias Naturski, front man of the punk band Rookie Jam, trumpeter Andreas Klieber joined them. Guitarist Thorsten Koch and keyboardist Thomas Flierl followed at the end of 2005 . In 2007 the band expanded with trombonist Simon Kintopp, who played saxophone with the ska band Burning . In the summer of 2010, the drummer Christof Stahl replaced the founding member Viktor Kollmannsberger, who left for professional reasons. Stahl is also active in the rock band Konstinger and the cover band Stereoheaven. In the spring of 2011 Annika Becker joined the band as a tenor saxophonist. She was previously a member of the Rosenheim Latin Ska band No Scammin.

In 2007 the band received the promotion award of the district-wide newcomer competition for rock and pop bands in Erlangen-Höchstadt . In the same year, Yambalaya was awarded a prize among 16 bands at the 29th Newcomer Festival in the E-Werk Erlangen. Her first album Life's a Circus and You Are the Clown was released in April 2008 and was presented in a release show at E-Werk Erlangen. The second album Dance of Ambivalence was released in 2010. In 2008 and 2011 the band performed at the Chiemsee Reggae Summer .
In 2008 Yambalaya u. a. at the Nuremberg Bardentreffen , the Sunhill Reggae Night and the Öttinger Afrika Karibik Fest. In the summer of 2009 the band started their first continuous tour in Bavaria and Austria . Yambalaya is a member of the Nuremberg Music Center .
