Yannick Bapupa (born January 21, 1982 in Kinshasa ) is a football player from the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The midfielder , who made his debut for the national team in his home country in 2008 , made his previous professional career in Sweden and won two championship titles with Djurgårdens IF .

Career

Bapupa started playing soccer in his home country. In 2002 he moved from Kinshasa City Star to Sweden to Djurgårdens IF. In his first season for the club, he contributed to winning the Lennart Johansson Cup for the Swedish championship with one goal in ten games . When winning the Svenska Cup on November 9th of the year by a 1-0 win over local rivals AIK through a goal by Louay Chanko, he was not involved. In the following years, among other things, he remained primarily a supplementary player due to injury and was used in twelve games in defending the championship title the following year. Nevertheless, together with René Makondele , he decided to extend his contract with the Stockholm Club. In November 2004 he reached the cup final with the team again, in the 3-1 win over IFK Göteborg , he played as a substitute from the 77th minute for Tomas Backman . After he was only six times in the starting XI in his 20 appearances in the league, he decided to change clubs at the end of the season.

To get more playing time to get to Bapupa closed on 1 January 2005 the second-rate in the Superettan antretenden Åtvidabergs FF to where he signed a two-year contract. At the two-time champions he established himself as a regular in midfield and played 24 of the 30 season games in the starting line-up. He also reached the cup final with the team, in which he met his former club Djurgårdens IF. This time he was in the starting line-up, but could not prevent the 2-0 defeat by goals from Toni Kuivasto and Tobias Hysén .

Because of his good performance, Bapupa was also noticed by the upper class. In November 2006, the first division club Gefle IF announced the commitment of the midfielder, who signed a two-year contract. Here he established himself in the regular formation and contributed to the club's relegation in 23 games this season. In the summer of 2007, he received negative attention away from the sports field when he was accused of mistreating his wife. After he was sentenced to social work and therapy, the club said it would continue to rely on his services. As a result, he was able to fight for a regular place again and was in the 2008 season in 29 of the 30 season games on the field. At the same time, he recommended himself for the national team of his home country, in which he made his debut on March 25, 2008 when he met the Gabonese national team.

In the 2009 season , Bapupa was still one of the regulars until he injured his knee in September and was absent for several weeks. After the end of the season, in which he had scored three goals in 24 games and managed to stay in the league with Gefle IF in tenth place, he moved to Kalmar FF on a free transfer within the Allsvenskan .
