Location of Yanyuan County (pink) in Liangshan Autonomous District (yellow), Sichuan.

The county Yanyuan ( Chinese  盐源县 , pinyin Yanyuan Xiàn ) in the Autonomous County in Liangshan Yi is located in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan , People's Republic of China . Its main town is the large community of Yanjing (盐井 镇). The district has an area of ​​8,388 km² and has a population of 320,000 (2002), of which, according to the results of the 2000 census, 47% were Yi , 44% Han Chinese and 9% members of other peoples , mainly Mongols and Tibetans.
