Xichang ( Chinese 西昌 市 , Pinyin Xīchāng Shì ; Yi : Latbbu-Oprro ꆿꁮꀒꎂ, Oprro ꀒꎂ for short ) is the capital of the Liangshan Autonomous District of the Yi in the Sichuan Province of the People's Republic of China . A spaceport and rocket launch site , the so-called Xichang Cosmodrome, are located near the city . Xichang has its own airport, which is directly connected to the spaceport by a railway line and a highway . The coordinates of the center are 27 ° 54 ' N , 102 ° 16' O .
The administrative area of Xichang has an area of 2,655 km² and about 600,000 inhabitants (end of 2006).
The Dayangdui site ( 大洋 堆 遗址 , Dayangdui yizhi ) in Jingjiu and the Great Stone Tombs in the Liangshan Autonomous District ( 凉山 大石 墓群 , Liangshan da shimuqun , English Large Stone Tombs of Wanao, Xichang and Arong, Dechang ) from the time of the Han -Dynasty until the Warring States Period (in Wanao洼 垴 (Xichang) and Arong ( Dechang )) have been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 2006 .
