It has an area of 776.96 km², making it the largest municipality in Danzhou. Of the 31,000 hectares of undeveloped land in the municipality, around 15,000 hectares are forest (13,000 hectares of which are rubber plantations) and 3,670 hectares are arable land, of which 1,530 hectares are sugar cane. In addition, rice and cassava are grown on a larger scale in Yaxing . To the east of the village of Fuke is the Hainan Sounding Department of the National Center for Space Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences .

history

In the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) the area of today's Yaxing began to be developed. However, due to the poor transport connections at the time, the area remained sparsely populated. Only after the end of World War II did more people settle there, and the Yaxing community, or “Noble Star”, was founded. After the conquest of Hainan by the People's Liberation Army in 1950, Yaxing was initially still a municipality (乡). In 1958 the community was combined with the state VBA farm to form the VBA People's Commune (八一 人民公社), but one year later it was split off and the People's Commune Yaxing was founded. In 1983, the People's Commune was dissolved and initially assigned as the Danzhou District . In 1986 Yaxing was upgraded to a large parish. In August 2002, Yaxing was united with the then large community of Fuke, which increased its area from 170 km² to 557.56 km² and the population from 8,000 to 50,000. In 2017, eight former state farms were placed under the municipal administration, which meant a further increase in the area to 776.96 km² and the population to 85,000. Up to that point in time the Li made up the majority of the population in the large community with 60%, after that the Han Chinese.

Stone flower cave

In 1998, workers at the VBA farm discovered a cave that reached deep into the Yingdao Mountain while mining limestone about 3 km east of Yaxing. The following year, speleologists from the Chinese Geological Society examined the cave and came to the conclusion that the tunnel, which winded a total of five kilometers through the mountain, had been washed out of the rock about 1.4 million years ago. The first two kilometers can be walked on with dry feet, the part deeper in the mountain can be accessed by boat; the water depth is mostly 5–7 m, at the deepest point 17 m. Of this, 550 m in the front part and 350 m on the water are accessible to tourists. In addition to the usual stalactite formations such as stalactites and stalagmites , there are also so-called "stone flowers" made of calcite , which is why the cave was named "stone flower cave" (石 花 水洞, Pinyin Shíhuā Shuǐdòng ) at the suggestion of geologists .

Transport links

Yaxing is directly connected to the provincial capital Haikou and Sanya in the south of the island by the national road 225 , which leads past the southern outskirts of the city . Fuke, the second center of the large community, is on the Hainan ring road .
