Yi jian mei ( Chinese  一剪梅 , Pinyin Yījiǎn méi , English One Plum Blossom , German "A plum blossom") is a mandopop song by the Taiwanese singer Fei Yu-ching from 1983, which was first featured in his album Water of the Yangtze River (長江 水) has been published. A renewed version of the song was released in 2010 on his album Grenzlose Liebe (天 之 大).

The melancholy love song is widely regarded as the hallmark of Fei's musical career. The song is about the singer's immortal love, which he compares to a plum tree blooming in winter . It has been a popular song in Greater China since the 1980s and has been a timeless classic ever since. It was the theme song for the 1984 Taiwanese drama A Plum Blossom, produced by China Television .

The album Water of the Yangtze River , published in Mandarin in 1983 , first contained the song that was originally intended as the theme song for a Taiwanese TV drama series entitled Dreams Back to the Border Town (邊城 夢迴). Ultimately, the TV drama series was not released, and the song was instead used as the theme song for the 1984 Taiwanese TV drama A Plum Blossom, making it popular among the Taiwanese population.

In 1988, the drama A Plum Blossom was broadcast on China Central Television (CCTV) and became popular in mainland China . The song was broadcast as the theme song of the year 2009, from mainland China coming remake version of the Taiwanese TV drama in 1983 entitled新一剪梅( english New One Plum Blossom ) reused, with Wallace Huo plays the main role.

In 2019, Beijing-based Taiwanese singer Peter Chen performed the song at a Moon Festival concert organized by CCTV . In the same year, Fei, who had previously announced his formal resignation, gave farewell concerts in various locations and sang the song at a closing ceremony at the Taipei Arena on November 7, 2019 .

Internet phenomenon

Zhang is known for his bald head and his egghead , which is why he also called Eggman or Duck Egg is known.

In May 2020, the song reached an international audience and became a meme on the TikTok video portal . In countries such as Norway , Sweden , Finland and New Zealand , the song reached the highest positions in the respective Viral 50 of the Spotify charts .

The song is also under the romanized spelling of the verses from the beginning of the chorus, the Xue hua piao piao in feng xiao xiao ( Chinese  雪花 飄飄 北 風蕭蕭 , Pinyin Xuě huā piāo piāo běi fēng xiāo xiāo , dt. "The snow falls that North wind blows ") is known. Due to the popularity of the Internet meme, music streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube Music put the romanized verses from the beginning of the chorus into the song title in addition to the official song title.

Fei Yu-ching, who retired in November 2019, said he was flattered and honored by the song's sudden international popularity, but also emphasized that he has already retired from the mandopop scene and will not be returning becomes.
