Yip Wing- sie ( Chinese  葉 詠詩  /  叶 咏诗 , Pinyin Yè Yǒngshī , Jyutping Jip 6 Wing 6 si 1 , * 1960 in Guangzhou , China ) is a Chinese violinist and conductor from Hong Kong .

Life

Yip studied violin and conducting at the Royal College of Music in London and at Indiana University in Bloomington. In 1986 and 1992 she attended conducting courses at Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts with the help of two scholarships. Her teachers include Leonard Bernstein , Norman Del Mar , Seiji Ozawa , David Atherton and Gustav Meier .

She has been the music director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta since 2002 and toured Asia, Europe and South America. She is also the first guest conductor of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, which she directed from 1997 to 2003. From 1986 to 2000 she headed the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra . She also conducted a. a. New Japan Philharmonic , Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse and Warsaw Philharmonic. She played in the Wiener Musikverein and other well-known concert halls. Yip has collaborated with musicians like Augustin Dumay , Shlomo Mintz , Fou Ts'ong , Itzhak Perlman , Anne-Sophie Mutter and Pinchas Zukerman .

From 2005 to 2006 she was visiting professor at the National University of Singapore . In 2010 she became a Fellow at the Royal College of Music.
