Then the so-called “ Charnier de Youpogon ” (French for “ mass grave of Yopougon ”) was found in Yopougon . Inside were the bodies of more than 50 people, mostly from the north. The perpetrators were suspected to be in the ranks of the gendarmerie .

On December 28, 2010, an angry crowd attacked a UN convoy in Yopougon. They injured a UN soldier with a machete and set one of the three vehicles on fire.

In the course of the government crisis of 2010/2011 , fighting between rebels of the invisible commandos and the then Ivorian armed forces (FDS) broke out in Yopougon, which was considered the stronghold of Laurent Gbagbo . On the night of March 14-15 , 2011, the residence of Philippe Mangou , then Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, was attacked. On April 1, Gbagbo supporters roamed the streets of Yopougon. On April 12, 14 bodies of adolescents were found who had been shot in the head. In Yopougon there has been fighting since April 21st between the Forces républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) and militias loyal to Gbagbo such as the Jeunes Patriotes , in whose hands it remained after Abijan's capture and Gbagbo's arrest. Eyewitnesses reported troop movements and explosions. Also on April 25th there was gunfire in Yopougon.
