The diocese of Yopougon ( Latin Dioecesis Yopugonensis ) with its seat in the city of Yopougon is a Catholic diocese in the Archdiocese of Abidjan on the Ivory Coast .

history

The Diocese of Yopougan was established on June 8, 1982 by dividing the Archdiocese of Abidjan . It includes the Agnéby region excluding Agboville and part of the Lagunes region ( Dabou , Tissalé , Sikensi , Taabo , Songon and the major city of Yopougon ). The area of ​​the diocese is 12,640 km². It is bounded in the south by the sea, in the east by the Archdiocese of Abidjan, in the northeast by the Diocese of Abengourou , in the north by the Diocese of Yamoussoukro and in the west by the Diocese of Gagnoa . On October 14, 2006 the pastoral circle Agboville was raised to a separate diocese .

Yopougon is a cosmopolitan diocese, in whose melting pot more or less all ethnic groups of the Ivory Coast and foreigners come together. Immigrant ethnic groups are: Ebrié , Alladjan , Adioukrou , Anyi , Akyé , Abé , Krobou , Abidji and Baule .
