Laurent Akran Mandjo

Laurent Akran Mandjo (born November 5, 1940 in Songon-Agba ; † August 25, 2020 in Abidjan ) was an Ivorian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Yopougon . From 2002 to 2008 he was President of the Ivorian Bishops' Conference.

Life

Laurent Akran Mandjo was ordained a priest on July 11, 1971 by Bernard Yago , Archbishop of Abidjan . He then worked as a chaplain in the Archdiocese of Abidjan. From 1978 to 1982 Mandjo studied canon law at the Pontifical Urban University , from which he graduated with a doctorate.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on June 8, 1982 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Yopougon. The episcopal ordination received his Bernard Yago on 18 September of the same year; Co- consecrators were Justo Mullor García , Apostolic Nuncio in Ivory Coast and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Burkina Faso and Niger , and Bernard Agré , Bishop of Man . From 2002 to 2008 Mandjo was President of the Ivorian Bishops' Conference (CECCI - Conférence des Evêques Catholiques de Côte d'Ivoire).

Pope Francis accepted his age- and health-related resignation on November 28, 2015.
