You Say Party (until June 2010: ! You Say Party We Say Die ) is a five-member Canadian alternative - band with some socio-political texts whose sound as punk - radio - or disco -punk and dance punk with New Wave - Elements and high speed is described.

Band history

In 2003 Krista Lowen (vocals, keyboards) and Stephen O'Shea (bass) founded You Say Party! In Abbotsford, British Columbia . We Say Die! . The name refers to the 1999 song by Prince . Becky Ninkovic becomes singer, Derek Adam guitarist and Devon Clifford becomes drummer of the band. The band members have known each other since high school, meet to ride bikes and to see skaters and artists who hold two houses in the affluent, religious community and give concerts there. First, Lowen and O'Shea write the songs, later it becomes a collaborative process.

In 2004 they played their first punk concert in a church near Vancouver . In the same year they released the EP Dansk Wad and were signed by the Vancouver music label Sound Document . In The Blood Brothers and Pretty Girls Make Graves play as the opening act. The debut album Hit The Floor! will be released in Canada in September 2005. The song The Gap (Between the Rich and the Poor) becomes an indie hit and appears in Germany on Cheesedream / Kitty-Yo .

At the Paradiso in Amsterdam on November 20, 2006.

2006 tour You Say Party! We Say Die! through Great Britain and Europe and also play their first concert in Germany. Hit The Floor will be released in September ! also in Europe, in October they were refused entry to the USA due to a lack of working papers and poor communication from the authorities and they had to cancel their tour there. For their second album, Lose All Time , which will be released in Canada in March 2007, they are looking for a “bigger, better” label with more money and better structures and they switch to Paper Bag Records . In German-speaking countries, the album will be released in August by the Play It Again Sam label. In the same year they tour Europe, giving three concerts in Germany. In 2008 they tour China and Japan. For the 2009 album XXXX they changed their sound more towards indie pop rock .

At a concert at the Rickshaw Theater in Vancouver on April 16, 2010, Clifford collapsed on stage due to a brain hemorrhage and fell into a coma. Ninkovic asks fans to call 911. Two days later, on Sunday April 18, 2010, Devon Clifford dies in hospital at the age of 30 despite an emergency operation. The upcoming European tour is canceled, the band name is changed to You Say Party , Loewen is leaving the band. The others continue: "We believe that Devon would not have wanted his death to mean the end of the band." With Robert Andow on keyboards and Bobby Siadat on drums of the Vancouver band Gang Violence , with whom they had previously played together have, they will catch up on the European tour in autumn, release a remix album of some of XXXX's tracks and record new tracks. In 2011 they split up after seven years of existence. It was unclear at the time whether they would just take a break or break up completely. In the same year, the video for her song Lonely's Lunch won the Canadian Much Music Video Awards in the category of Director Of The Year .

At the end of 2012, Ninkovic, O'Shea, Loewen and Adam get back together, perform at the tenth anniversary of Paper Bag Records , and the four of them begin to work on a new album. In the future, they want to use drum computers , if at all . In 2013 the song Friend appeared , in which they deal with Clifford's death. That same year, Ninkovic and O'Shea are expecting their first child together, and O'Shea runs for the Green Party of Canada in local elections in British Columbia . In 2014, the EP Decennium was released for the tenth anniversary . In 2015 they released the song Ignorance , on February 16, 2016 their new electro-pop album You Say Party was released .
