Yttrium chloride is used in analytical chemistry as a catalyst , for the production of pure yttrium (e.g. by reduction with potassium ) and as a starting material for ceramic materials (e.g. titanium and phosphorus-containing ceramics, which are used, among other things, as microwave filters and laser material can) and glasses are used.

Physical Properties

Yttrium chloride crystallizes in a monoclinic crystal structure . The space group is C 2 / m (No. 12) and the lattice constants are a = 6.92 Å , b = 11.94 Å, c = 6.44 Å and β = 111.0 °. In the crystal structure, each yttrium atom is surrounded by six chlorine atoms in a distorted octahedral manner . Template: room group / 12
