Yukifumi Murakami ( Japanese 村上 幸 史 , Murakami Yukifumi ; born December 23, 1979 in Ikina (today: Kamijima ), Ochi-gun , Ehime Prefecture ) is a Japanese athlete who specializes in throwing a javelin .

Sporting successes

In the junior class Murakami won a bronze medal at the 1998 World Championships in Annecy, France .

He returned from the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, and from the 2006 Asian Games in Qatar as a silver medalist . Murakami also finished second at the 2003 Asian Championships in Manila . In 2006 Murakami was also the Japanese national javelin champion.

Murakami participated in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, but could not achieve medal rank.

He celebrated his greatest success to date in 2009 when he won the bronze medal in the javelin throw at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin with 82.97 m. In the final, he only had to admit defeat to Andreas Thorkildsen from Norway (89.59 m) and Cuban Guillermo Martínez (86.41 m). Murakami had already increased his best performance to 83.10 m in the qualification.

In 2009 Murakami won gold at the Asian Championships. At the 2011 World Championships he was seventh.

At a height of 1.86 m, his competition weight is 93 kg.
