Yvo Wettstein

Yvo Wettstein (* 1975 in Bern ) is a Swiss violinist .

Life

Yvo Wettstein grew up in Ticino and studied violin at the CSI Music Academy in Lugano with Carlo Chiarappa. In 1997 he completed his teaching diploma. Further studies took him to the conservatory in Lausanne , where he obtained the concert qualification diploma with Pierre Amoyal and Patrick Genet . Finally in 2002 the soloist diploma at the music academy in Lucerne with Giuliano Carmignola . He took master classes at the Mozarteum , as well as in Paris and Bruges with Gérard Poulet and Luca Pfaff.

Wettstein played interim with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich ; from 2002 to 2007 he was a permanent member of the Festival Strings Lucerne . The close collaboration with the Swiss composer Alfred Knüsel (* 1941) is characteristic of Wettstein ; Several times he interpreted his works and played world premieres of his compositions.

Wettstein plays as a soloist with various orchestras, including a. the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra , the Serenade Chamber Orchestra Yerevan and the Filarmonici di Verona . As a chamber musician , he has performed in numerous duo (including with Duofollia ), trio and quartet formations. Several CD recordings have been released on the labels Oehms Classic , Sony Classic , ARTE NOVA Classics and Classics2000 .

In 2004 he founded the chamber music ensemble Ensemble Varioso together with other professional musicians . Since 2010 he has been the violinist of the Luzia von Wyl Ensemble .

He often appears at chamber music concerts with the mezzo-soprano Miriam Wettstein . Yvo Wettstein played and conducted joint choir and church concerts, for example in 2010 with the Orchestra Sinfonietta Variabile and Coro Misto di Locarno in Ascona and Massagno . As part of this concert tour, Yvo Wettstein appeared as a soloist in Antonio Vivaldi's violin concertos, The Four Seasons .

He plays a violin made by Giuseppe Scarampella from 1871 and teaches violin at the music school in Hergiswil NW .
