Milk soup is now a mostly sweet dish that is often served as a dish for children. In the past, it could also be a hearty soup meal.

Preparations

The soup consists mainly of boiled, sweet or salty spiced milk , which is poured over pieces of (white) bread when serving . There are also variations in which flour , oat flakes , dumplings or pieces of dough are added instead of bread or served in addition. Fruits such as prunes can also be added.

Zacierka (also known as Klunkersuppe ) is a Polish milk soup that is taken as an evening meal. The milk is boiled and an egg is mixed with sugar , salt , nutmeg or vanilla and flour to form a dry mass, which is stirred into the hot milk and allowed to set to form small dumplings. Zacierka is not just a warm dish that is served with cinnamon or fruit , it is also eaten cold in summer - similar to rice pudding or flammeri . Then it's a fruit soup .

Historical meaning

Milk soup had historical significance in the First Kappel War . There it was used in 1529 as a reconciliation dinner for the conclusion of the First Kappel Peace . This event has become known as the Kappeler milk soup . The Reformed people of Zurich provided the bread and the Catholic Central Switzerland provided the milk. To commemorate this day, the milk soup stone was set near Ebertswil am Albis on the border between the two cantons of Zug and Zurich .
