Zanny Minton Beddoes
Susan "Zanny" Minton Beddoes (* 1967 ) is a British journalist , first editor-in-chief of The Economist and co-editor of the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT .
Career
Beddoes studied at St Hilda's College of the University of Oxford philosophy , politics and economics and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from. She then moved to Harvard , where she completed her studies as a Kennedy scholarship holder with a Masters .
After graduation, in 1992, she worked in a small group of economists under the direction of Jeffrey Sachs , professor in the economics faculty at Harvard University, as an advisor to the Minister of Finance in Poland. She later worked for two years as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) , where she worked on macroeconomic adjustment programs in Africa and in the economies of the reform states of Central and Eastern Europe .
1994 she came as a correspondent for the start-up scene to The Economist . From 1996, she was the business editor in charge of the world economic reports from Washington, DC . On her return to London, she assumed responsibility for operations , finance and science as the business editor . Her career as the first woman to head the news magazine The Economist began on February 2, 2015.
Since May 2017 she has also been a member of DIE ZEIT's five-member editorial board .
Act
Beddoes has been one of the most influential voices in business journalism since her appointment as editor-in-chief at The Economist. She has written overviews of the world economy as well as Latin American and Central Asian finance. She has published extensively on the American economy and international financial policy , the enlargement of the European Union , the future of the IMF, and economic reforms in emerging economies . Her articles have been published in Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy , among others . Beddoes contributed chapters to several conference proceedings and in 1997 published Emerging Asia, a book on the future of emerging markets in Asia . In May 1998, her expert opinion on the introduction of the euro was asked before the subcommittee on international monetary policy and trade of the United States House Financial Services, a subcommittee of the House Committee on Financial Services.
Beddoes is the curator of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a member of the Research Advisory Board of the Committee for Economic Development. She regularly comments on television and radio on the BBC , MSNBC , PBS , NPR , CNN and CNBC .
In 2015 Beddoes was one of 133 invited to the elite Bilderberg conference . In the following years she also took part in the annual meetings at which influential personalities gather and around whom conspiracy theories are entwined.
Private life
Beddoes is the eldest daughter of a former British Army officer and his German- born wife. She is married to the British journalist and author Sebastian Mallaby . She has four children with him.
