The Schelle colliery was a hard coal mine in the Sprockhövel district of Niedersprockhövel. The mine was located west of the Pleßbachtal in the area of the Hohen Egge. The Schelle colliery was one of 19 Sprockhövel collieries, which were also known as Crone'sches Revier.

history

The beginnings

A length field was awarded on May 20, 1705 . The field was on the south wing on the lowest of three depressions lying one above the other. The Haberbank colliery was on the opposite wing. After the award, the mine went into operation for several years. The operation was carried out by up to eight miners . On July 14 of 1784 the mine was in operation by the then head of the Brandenburg district mining office, the Baron von Stein traveled . Vom Stein provided information in his protocol about the condition of the mine and the performance of the miners employed there . At this point a seam was loosened by a tunnel that had a length of 143 holes . The tunnel was provided with timber lining over a length of about 6.28 meters . The remaining 293 meters of the tunnel were in the solid mountains ascended been without removing. The tunnel mouth hole was located in the area of today's motorway bridge to the Pleßbachtal. The coal was extracted in the substation and conveyed through a hasp brake hill . After 1784 the mine was for several years in deadlines . From 1796 the mine was part of the navigable area of the Obersteigers Hilgenstock.

The further operation until the consolidation

In 1800 the mine was put back into operation, the shaft Carl was promoting . In 1805 the Rudolf, Otto and Carl shafts were in operation. This year, 2188 tons of hard coal were mined. In 1809 the mine was closed for several years. In February 1822, mining began at the Henriette shaft. The shaft was equipped with a göpel and was used together with the Haberbank colliery . The two mines built in the same seam, but on different wings. In addition to the Henriette shaft, the Piele shaft was in operation this year. In 1826 united the two mines below the tunnel floor to the colliery clamp & Haber Bank . The reason for this union was the creation of a common civil engineering . Above the bottom of the tunnel, both mines remained independent. In 1829, mining stopped above the bottom of the tunnel.

Current condition

The former mine is now part of the former United Schelle & Haberbank colliery, part of the Pleßbachweg . The pit water still flows out of the tunnel mouth of the former Schelle colliery in a small trickle. The water is brownish in color due to dissolved iron oxides .
