The Wohlgemuth colliery on the border between Essen - Kupferdreh and Essen- Byfang is a former hard coal mine . The mine was also known under the names Zeche Wohlgemut , Zeche Hinsbeck and artwork in the Hinsbecker Mark . The mine was in the area of ​​today's Wohlgemuthweg.

Mining history

In 1792 the concession for coal mining was granted by the Abbot of Werden . The tunnel construction began in the same year . In 1796 the concession was granted to mine another seam . In 1798 a mechanically operated water art was used. The machine had been built by Franz Dinnendahl and should ensure the transition to civil engineering . In 1802 the mine owners commissioned Franz Dinnendahl to build a steam engine for lifting water . The machine was supposed to lift the pit water from a depth of eight pools . The water retention steam engine went into operation in 1803 . The machine lifted the pit water from a depth of 24 meters. In 1805 the bottom of the tunnel was mined. In 1814 the mine was closed. The following year, the mine was in deadlines set, the same year the remaining coals were sold. Installed by Dinnendahl dewatering machine ran again this year with no significant findings. At the end of July 1830 the mine was put back into operation. In the same year, the sinking work for a machine shaft began. Only a small amount of mining was carried out. A water retention steam engine was purchased from the United Wasserschneppe mine and put into operation the following year. In 1832, 236,421 bushels of hard coal were mined. In 1832 83 miners were employed at the Wohlgemuth colliery. In 1836, underground mining was carried out to a shallower depth of 25 meters below the bottom of the tunnel . A steam-powered hoisting machine and a water retention steam engine were in operation. In this year 29,774 ½ tons of hard coal were mined. From 1837, the mine was closed for several years. On June 28, 1856, a square was awarded . There are no further comments on the Wohlgemuth colliery.
