The Zelená hora (German: Grünberg, formerly also St. Anna-Berg or Annenberg, 637 m nm ) is a hill on the eastern edge of the cabbage forest near Cheb (Eger) in the Czech Republic . The mountain became famous for the pilgrimage church of St. Anna, which stood on a secondary peak (592 m nm) about 900 m east of the main peak .
geography
The Zelena Hora is located in the southeastern Fichtelgebirge and about rises four kilometers west of Cheb in the department Na Chlumu (German: Kulmwald). To the north of this is the Skalka reservoir , in which the Eger is dammed. On the mountain there is a broadcast tower for the Czech radio and a Bismarck tower .
In the geomorphological classification of the neighboring Czech Republic , the Chebská pahorkatina (German: Egerer Hügelland) is assigned to the (High) Fichtel Mountains as the main unit Smrčiny (I3A-1).
history
In 1891 the Cheb Beautification Association set up a wooden lookout tower on the Grünberg. This had to be demolished in 1909 due to dilapidation. A new stone observation tower was built according to a design by the town architect Rolf Beier from Eger and inaugurated as the Bismarck tower on October 3, 1909 . After 1945, the tower was forgotten because of its location in the border area and was left to decay. In 1973, a transmission tower for Czech television was built 200 m away.
In 2005 the city administration of Cheb bought the property below the Bismarck tower, renovated it for two million crowns and removed trees in the area that obstructed the view.
view
The tower offers a wide view of the Egerland , the Ore Mountains , the Kaiserwald and part of the Bohemian Forest .
Paths to the summit
From Horní Pelhřimov (Oberpilmersreuth) a path leads past the memorial for the former pilgrimage church of St. Anna to the wooded area by the television tower and on to the Bismarck tower.
