Zhang Linpeng ( Chinese  张琳 芃 , Pinyin Zhāng Línpéng ; born May 9, 1989 in Jinan , Shandong ) is a Chinese football player who plays for Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese first division . Based on the style of play of the Spanish footballer Sergio Ramos , who resembles Zhangs, he is also called Zhangmos ( Chinese  张 莫斯 ). Zhang is a defender with a strong offensive drive and is also known for his good tackles and positional play. Zhang is highly praised by the Italian soccer coach Marcello Lippi , Lippi even described him as “the best Chinese soccer player in the Chinese Super League”.

Zhang's talent was recognized early on, in 2006 he made his debut for Shanghai SIPG , with whom he was promoted to the second division in 2007. With his club, Zhang played an important role in the second division, in 2009 they narrowly missed the place in the promotion ranks with 4th place. His good performance at the club earned him an unexpected nomination for the Chinese national team , where he stood out with a goal against Jordan . Finally, it was bought by Chinese first division team Guangzhou Evergrande in 2010 for ¥ 12 million . He made his first league game for Guangzhou on April 2, 2011 against Dalian Shide , Guangzhou won the game 1-0. With his new club, Zhang won the first title in the club's history in 2012. Since 2013, he has been a regular player on the right side of the defense.

National team

Zhang played for China's U-20s and U-23s. In 2008 he led his team as captain during the U-19 soccer Asian championship until the semi-finals. He then played for the U-23 at the East Asian Games in 2009 , but the team was eliminated in the preliminary round. Despite the disappointing performance at the East Asian Games, Zhang - at that time still a second division player - was appointed to the first selection for China by Gao Hongbo . On his first outing against Jordan, Zhang scored his first goal and attracted attention. When he won the 2010 East Asian Cup , Zhang was in the squad, and he also took part in the 2011 Asian Cup .
