Zhou Guohua (born October 10, 1990 in Ulanqab , Inner Mongolia , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese para - athlete . The visually impaired athlete took part in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro , where she competed as a runner in class T12 and won several medals. In addition, she successfully competes in other national and international parasport competitions.

Career

Zhou Guohua was founded in 1990 in the city Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia who was born with a strong visual impairment. In 2009, she left her hometown and moved to Dongguan , south China's Guangzhou Province , where she got a job as a massage therapist. She was discovered as a runner in 2009 and, on the advice of Luo Jinhui from the local disability association, began to practice athletics at a professional level. She won her first medals at the national Paragames in 2009 and started her international career at the Summer Paralympics 2012 in London , where she and her companion Li Jie won a gold medal in the 100 meter T12 and a silver medal in the 200 meter T12. At the same time she ran a new world record time of 12.05 seconds over 100 meters , which corresponded to the time of non-disabled top 10 athletes.

At the World Athletics Championships for the disabled in Lyon in 2013 and in Doha in 2015 , she won the gold medal in the T12 100-meter run and at the 2014 Para-Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea, she won gold in the 100-meter course and in the 4th -time 100-meter relay race and silver on the 400-meter course.

In 2016, Zhou took part in the Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro and thus for the second time in the Paralympic Games. As a member of the relay team from China, she again won the gold medal with the 4-by-100-meter relay T11-T13 as well as the bronze medal on the 200-meter distance T12. At the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London , she won the gold medal in the 200 -Meter run T11 in front of the Chinese Liu Cuiqing and the Angolan Esperança Gicaso as well as the 100-meter run in front of Gicaso and the Thai Kewalin Wannaruemon . At the Para-Asian Games in the following year (2018), she even won a total of five medals: silver on the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter courses as well as gold in the 4 x 100 meter relay and, for the first time, in the long jump . She repeated this at the 2019 World Championships in Dubai , where she won silver in addition to the gold medal in the T11 long jump with the 4 x 100 meter relay.
