The Zieltal is an orographically left side valley of the Vinschgau or upper Adige Valley in South Tyrol . It branches off near Partschins , on whose municipality it is located, in a northerly direction and leads deep into the Texel Group , a subgroup of the Ötztal Alps . It is drained by the Zielbach , a tributary of the Etsch , which forms the well-known Partschins waterfall in the lower valley area . Apart from the valley exit area, which offers space for a few farmsteads, it is uninhabited and largely protected in the Texel Group Nature Park . Behind Partschins it quickly gains height and takes on the character of an alpine high valley. In the rear section of the valley, the Lodnerhütte at 2259  m serves as a base for hikers and mountaineers. The target valley is surrounded by numerous peaks, among which, clockwise, the Zielspitze ( 3009  m ), the Kirchbachspitze ( 3053  m ), the Texelspitze ( 3318  m ), the Roteck ( 3337  m ), the Hochweiß ( 3281  m ), the Lodner ( 3219  m ), the Lazinser Rötelspitze ( 3038  m ) and the Tschigat ( 2998  m ) are the most famous.
