The Karasi cigarette factory , also Karasi, Cigarettenfabrik GmbH for a time also Cigarettenfabrik Karasi GmbH was a German producer of tobacco products .

history

The company was founded in the late early days of the German Empire on June 17, 1901 by the manufacturer Georg Bodenstab and was initially located on Warstrasse in the northern part of Hanover . Although the competition was already well represented in the market at that time, the Karasi factory started producing with three manual workers . After just one year, the number of employees had increased tenfold to 30.

Above all, cigarettes were made with tobacco from the Orient ; In particular, sales of the “Golf” or “Karasi-Golf” brands developed very successfully.

In 1911, the company began gradually making its products using machines . In 1925, for example, a single Excelsior-Rapid cigarette machine could produce up to 400,000 cigarettes a day; up to 350 workers would have had to be employed in the original manual production for the same amount.

After several relocations, the factory was finally relocated to Gustav-Adolf-Straße 22 .

During the air raids on Hanover in World War II , the cigarette factory was destroyed by aerial bombs . Only after the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany was the Karasi, Cigarettenfabrik GmbH able to resume operations, this time only in a barrack in Letter , but from the beginning with 50 employees. In addition to other brands, golf cigarettes in particular were again produced.

In 1955 the company was closed.
